blogThe impact of small gestures and kind words.

Way bigger than most people imagine.

I try to offer a kind word and send out positive vibes to people at random moments, not just when times are tough and I know they need it. Sometimes, I start to think that I may be one of the few people in this world that do it. It’s understandable, everyone has their own busy life. It’s easy to forget that just a few words or a small, kind gesture could make a difference in someone’s day. For a while, I’ve followed the notion that by taking the time to say something nice, doing something special or just offering up a smile to someone, a tiny revolution can occur. One positive action can spark a chain of reactions that can, in turn, impact way more people than anticipated. Positivity is infectious…unless you are a total scab, then it’s a lost cause.

Usually, I am more on the giving end of this scenario, but the tables were turned today. I was the recipient of those random words of encouragement and thoughtful gestures, probably more than I gave. Those simple acts did make a difference in my day and made me even more motivated to give the same gifts to others. What’s even better about today’s random acts of positivity was that they came mostly from people I don’t get to talk to or see often. One of which, I barely even know. Tonight, I wanted to offer the kindness back by putting my gratitude out into the world.

So, here I go with my thank you’s:

To my cousin, for reminding me (often unknowingly) of how I need to slow down and relax from time to time. She is dealing with things that make anything I have to endure seem like a cakewalk. I admire her grace and sense of humor during difficult times. I’ve said it about a million times and I’ll say it again, my family is pretty spectacular.

To my friend Eggs, we may not communicate all that often, but you are definitely a source of inspiration for me. Thank you for your words of encouragement and for helping me get my butt back into gear. Life IS brief and I SHOULD live it up. You are awesomely awesome…so great, I had to use it twice.

To Vette, thank you for just being thoughtful. It is rare to hear someone say “I just wanted to make you smile”. A short, simple phrase, but jam packed with thoughtfulness and positivity. There are times I think I forget to smile for a good portion of the day, so to have a little reminder is pretty great.

To Jennyburg, thank you for reminding me that I am still, and will forever be, a unicorn. You not only believe in the magic, you posses it yourself. I couldn’t ask for a better unicorn sister.

To Twankles, thank you for constantly reminding me of rule #1…Sawyer is forever awesome. I’m not sure what rule book you pulled that from, but I appreciate the reassurance. I may laugh almost every time I hear it, but that’s just to hide that I love the fact that you actually believe it.
