Good stuff at the circus museum.
I have mixed feelings about the circus. I’m not too fond of the animal part, but there is something about vintage circus paraphernalia that makes me feel a bit nostalgic. I’m talking early circus, before i was born. Although I may not have been alive to experience the early days of P.T. Barnum and the sort, I relate to the era for some reason. Everything was steeped in artistic quality. From the signs, to the carts, to costumes, close attention to detail was paid. That isn’t something that occurs these days. The mode of operation is now, what is the quickest, cheapest way to make something. No regard for quality or design. I had visited the Ringling Museum of Art a number of times, but never the circus portion of the complex. The craftsmanship on these items in the museum was outstanding. There was also an exhibit of Western posters showing. So much inspiration for me in this place.
