Nothing like the colors and sounds of a skating rink to get me pumped.
The skating rink, one of those things that just refuses to change. I used to spend a good amount of time at the skating rink when I was a kid. Skate Odyssey was the place to go. My school even hosted monthly parties there. That place has been gone for a good number of years now, but its rival, United Skates of America, is still in the game. I’ve been a few times as an adult and it is always a blast. It is pretty much exactly how I remember the rink as a kid, with the bright, obnoxiously colored wall-to-wall carpet, crazy lights, disco ball (despite the lack of disco or anyone really knowing what it is anymore), the awesome games that give tickets, the cheesy prizes to use your hard earned tickets on, pizza and those little lockers that I always lose my 50 cents in. What made it even better was that this is one of the only places that issues tokens for games rather than a fancy card and they have added latin jams to the musical selection. This night, I exchanged my tickets for some oh-so-rad giant sunglasses and wore them proudly.
