One of the perks of being an artist, I get what I want, visually.
I never thought of myself as the “getting hitched” type. Most women dream of marriage and have this idea of having a perfect wedding, not me. It is a life goal for most. The only “dream” I ever had that involved relationships was to have one based on respect, love, understanding, compromise and gratitude, marriage never being a contingency. Well, I had finally found all that, which was pretty cool. Only downside, he wanted the wedding (party) more than I did. I’d much rather just spend a day at the beach than getting all dolled-up and put on the show. I went along with it, but with a few requests. 1) I do the invites and 2) I want coffee cups with my face on them. That was all, and I got it. For the invites, I made line drawings of my husband and I in thuggish poses. It seemed only natural since we both have a a gangster-ish streak. Since we both love nature, I created organic borders around our portraits. He got the twig border since he always uses wood in his artwork, I got flowers since I rarely create a piece without one in it. The colors…pale blue and pink, one of my favorite combos. He added the color and text to the invites. Our faces were also used on the espresso cups we gave out. Now that was compromise…and love.
